Award – CASCADE Voices

Voices From Care Cymru work in collaboration with CASCADE at Cardiff University to form CASCADE Voices, a group of care-experienced young people who advise on how health and social care research projects should be designed and carried out. In 2015 CASCADE undertook a study on Looked After Children and Education which was funded by the Welsh Government, and two peer researchers from the group were given the opportunity to help conduct the focus groups with care leavers. The researchers were given training on research methods, ethics, confidentiality and focus group facilitation.

The findings from the study went on to be detailed in 17 recommendations to the Welsh Government, showing the real impact that CASCADE Voices has on influencing decisions and policy making that involves children and young people looked after.

On 5th October 2017 one of our members and CASCADE Peer Researcher Jenny Coleman, joined CASCADE Research Associate Dr Eleanor Staples at the Health and Care Research Wales Conference to receive their Public Involvement Achievement Award for their work on the study. Well done to all involved in the project!
